CPD
The Wheel
As part of our CPD on The Curriculum Wheel we have a session as part of the Colleges Staff Development Week on Wednesday, 18th August at 2pm -3.30pm, in the College. We already have 19 College staff lined up but there are spaces available for staff and volunteers from other partner agencies. Please let me know, in the first instance, of anyone who wishes to attend the session by 23rd July and I will pass these on to the College.
A synopsis of the course is given below.
This short session provides an introduction to The Wheel, a visual, guidance tool to aid the learning planning process around literacy and numeracy learning. It was developed in Scotland by Learning Connections and is central to the Curriculum Framework for Adult Literacy and Numeracy in Scotland. It provides guidance on how staff can work with learners/students to identify, define and then address their learning goals. The learner is placed firmly at the centre of the wheel and as a planning tool, it helps to focus both the tutor and the learner, providing motivation, clarity and content. It not only depicts the complexity of the interaction and dialogue that should be occurring between tutor and learner but also provides a systematic process to ensure that the practice encompasses all aspects of literacies development, within a social practices approach. This session will use the on-line version of The Wheel but it can also be used effectively in its simple diagrammatic form.
Please pass this information on to any relevant colleagues.
Kind regards.

Alcohol in My Life
West CHCP
The West Glasgow CHCP Child & Youth Health Improvement team has produced an innovative new resource designed to support individuals, families and communities to tackle underage drinking. The initiative aims to foster and promote collaborative work between all agencies and social responsible organisations in communities to promote healthier lifestyles.
The resource pack, DVD and website (http://www.aiml.org.uk/) are designed to make young people, parents, teachers and the wider community alike think about what actions - individually and collectively - they could take to help ensure that underage drinking is challenged as effectively as it can be.
The "Alcohol in my life" resource pack, DVD and website are designed:
